Lower Level Sweeping Block. Also referred to as groin block. It is more commonly referred to as Gedan Barai, but that actually refers to a lower level sweeping attack with a polearm, naginata, or a sword.
Prepare the fist by the neck just under the ear, then sweep the blocking arm down and across the body, turning the wrist towards the end to redirect the incoming strike. Seniors may prepare with an open hand, closing before it makes contact with the incoming strike. This helps relax the arm, making the movement faster.
Pronounced: geh-dan beh-rye oo-kay
